Metabolism is the process by which your body takes what you eat and convert them into energy through biochemical processes. Our body breaks down molecules to obtain energy, but also synthesize compounds needed by the cells, and all processes are tightly linked to the availability of nutrients. Students will also gain experience reading and discussing basic scientific papers. Virtual labs and simulations will be used to show students how real lab techniques are done.
THE TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:
What is metabolism?
How foods affect your metabolism? (protein, carbohydrate, and fat)
How deprivation of food affects your metabolism?
How exercise affect your metabolism?
Diseases related to metabolism.
