Neuroscience

Neuroscience – is the scientific study of the nervous system. Understanding neuroscience allows us to discover the world around us, including how we think, feel, move and sense our environment. Neuroscience also gives us insight into how we behave and the diseases that affect us.

The aim of this class is to provide students with a general introduction to neuroscience and the neural mechanisms that regulate the nervous system. We will explore concepts including synaptic transmission, the visual system, somatosensory system, movement, memory, brain disorders, addiction and drugs. This class will also provide an opportunity for students to engage in interactive discussions while improving communication skills.

Each class will begin with a lecture, introducing a new topic related to neuroscience. Throughout the lecture, interactive activities, games and videos will be incorporated. At the end of each lecture, students will provide a short presentation on an assigned topic.

THE TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:

  • Human Neural Systems

  • Memory

  • Emotion

  • Stress

  • Drugs
